לפני כמה שנים הלכתי עם חברה במכון וייצמן ופגשנו את מי שהיה המנחה שלה. אווו שלום מה שלומך נשיקות וכו'.... עד מהרה התברר שהאיש, איך לומר, לא בדיוק אתנו, למרות ששמר על פאסון והעמיד פנים כאילו דיברו רק אתמול. כשהלכנו, אחרי כמה דקות של דומיה, אמרתי שאני מאוד מקווה לא להאריך ימים למצב כזה. חברתי עשתה תנועה נמרצת של אקדח לרקה, קול נקישה, אצבע לחצה על הדק דמיוני ובזה הסתיים הנושא.
שלא תעלו על דעתכם לעשות דברים כאלה מול פרופ' אלי ורטמן. הוא הקדיש את חייו לטיפול בדמנציה וכבר הציג שורה ארוכה של מקרים בהם אדם שנחשב לדמנטי חזר לביתו מתפקד ומדבר. אלי אינו קוסם, הוא פשוט רופא מהסוג היסודי, נוירולוג שמכיר היטב את אינספור המערכות המקשרות בין המוח לשאר אברי הגוף ושכל תקלה בהן (הפרעות שינה, סוכרת, לחץ דם לא מאוזן, חסרים תזונתיים, מצבים נפשיים) יכולה לדמות מחלה נוירודגנרטיבית ולהעלות את המטופל על המדרון האסוני המוביל באמת לשיטיון. יחד עם צוות של נוירולוגים ונוירופסיכולוגים הוא למד לפרק כל אנמנזה לחלקי-חלקים אורגניים, קוגניטיביים וריגושיים, ולשים את האצבע על החלק הבודד שהשיבוש בו מצליח לדמות אלצהיימר או מכה אחרת שלא כתובה בתורה.
גילוי נאות א': לפני כשנתיים חשדתי שאני עובר ירידה קוגניטיבית ומיהרתי בפאניקה אל מרפאת ידידי בירושלים. גילוי נאות ב': אני מה שהרופאים מכנים "נון-קומפליינט." ברגע שהרגשתי (או חשבתי שהרגשתי, אל תסמכו על דמנטים) בשיפור, הזנחתי את המשך הבדיקות עד להתקף הפאניקה הבא. אבל ראיתי את הצוות הזה בפעולה וגם קראתי כמה מאמרים שפרסם בכתבי-עת מובילים. רפואה במיטבה (מעל 5000 מקרים), מדע ריגורוזי (מאמר פורץ-דרך אחרון ב-2024), דיאגנוסטיקה קפדנית, ומעל לכל אופטימיות ואהבה לכל פונה.

Dementia and Alzheimer's have emerged as the defining health challenges of our generation. Every three seconds, someone new is diagnosed globally; in Israel, hundreds of thousands are living with the disease and over 50 million worldwide Families are forced to navigate the devastating reality of memory loss, functional and behavioral declines, and staggering costs—often without a shred of hope.
Despite these figures, a definitive cure remains elusive. The Or Ad Foundation was established to change this reality.
Based on the groundbreaking methodology developed by Prof. Eli Wertman, a clear scientific truth has been revealed: in many cases, it is possible to halt deterioration, alleviate symptoms, and even achieve significant cognitive improvement.
Prof. Wertman’s precision diagnosis method refined through the treatment of over 5,000 patients— uncovers what the standard medical community often overlooks. Behind the "Dementia" label frequently lie hundreds of treatable remediable medical conditions affecting brain functionality. Just to mention a few: sleep disorders, diabetes, unbalanced blood pressure, contrasting medicines nutritional deficiencies, mental health challenges and many more. When these factors are identified through the implementation of Prof. Wertman’s method and addressed, the clinical picture might be changed.
In a sample of 100 patients, Prof. Wertman found that each of suffered from at least two remediable conditions, and on average over nine conditions.
A satisfaction survey of 99 patients revealed:
• 55% reported significant improvement in daily functioning.
• 41% returned to active social engagement.
• 32% showed marked cognitive improvement.
Following the publication of the scientific article in the Journal of Clinical Medicine (2024), the medical community was nearly unanimous: “This is a groundbreaking method.”
Now, the time has come to institutionalize this change and offer hope to hundreds of thousands. The Or Ad Association has taken upon itself this historic mission: conducting a clinical trial that will establish this method as an international standard. Clinical trials involve significant costs- the cost per patient is approximately 24,000 NIS (approx. $6,500).
